🍯 Rich & Creamy Caramel Frosting Recipe

A rich, buttery caramel frosting made from scratch with simple pantry ingredients. Perfect for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and fall bakes. No gelatin or alcohol.

  • 1 cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • ΒΌ cup milk (or plant-based milk for dairy-free)
  • ΒΌ tsp salt
  • 2–3 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (alcohol-free)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add brown sugar and stir constantly for 2–3 minutes.
  3. Pour in milk and salt. Bring to a gentle boil, then simmer 2 more minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool 10–15 minutes.
  5. Add vanilla and powdered sugar gradually, whisking or beating until smooth.
  6. Let set or chill if needed before piping or spreading.
