Ingredients

  • 1 lb halal ground beef
  • 2 cups cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (or cheese of choice)
  • 1 cup halal tomato sauce or tomato puree
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped (optional)
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Optional: chopped parsley or green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. Brown ground beef in a skillet; add onions, garlic, and bell pepper. Cook until soft.
  3. In a large bowl, mix rice, beef mixture, tomato sauce, half of the cheese, and all spices.
  4. Spread the mixture into the baking dish and top with remaining cheese.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes, then uncover and bake another 10 minutes.
  6. Let cool for 5–10 minutes. Garnish and serve warm.
