- 10 medium apples (a mix of sweet and tart)
- 8 cups water
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 whole cloves
- 1 star anise (optional)
- 1-inch piece ginger (optional)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (adjust to taste)
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients – Wash and chop the apples into quarters. No need to peel or core.
- Simmer – Add apples, water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and ginger to a large pot. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 1-2 hours.
- Mash Apples – Use a potato masher to break down the softened apples. Simmer for another 30 minutes.
- Strain – Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean container, pressing out all the liquid.
- Sweeten & Serve – Stir in brown sugar to taste. Serve warm or chilled.
