- 2 cups cooked, chilled jasmine rice
- 200g (7 oz) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or coconut aminos for soy-free)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil (like avocado or sunflower)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon green onion, chopped (for garnish)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 teaspoon chili flakes or sliced red chili for heat
Instructions
- Prep: Slice beef thinly against the grain. Chill cooked rice if freshly made.
- Marinate: Toss beef in 1 tablespoon soy sauce, salt, pepper, garlic, and ginger. Let sit for 10 minutes.
- Sear Beef: Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add beef and cook until browned. Set aside.
- Caramelize Onions: In the same pan, add sliced onions and stir-fry until golden and soft.
- Fry Rice: Add chilled rice to the pan with sesame oil. Stir-fry, pressing down occasionally to create crispy bits.
- Combine: Return beef to the pan. Add remaining soy sauce and toss everything until well mixed and hot.
- Finish: Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately with lime wedges if desired.
